Position Description
Liffey and Turlough Hill stations are made up of 4 separate generating locations; 292MW of pumped storage at Turlough Hill and 38MW of hydro generation at Poulaphuca, Golden Falls and Leixlip. Built between 1938 and 1944, Liffey Generating Stations at Pollaphuca, Golden Falls and Leixlip joined the Ardnacrusha scheme on the River Shannon to become ESB’s second major hydroelectric development. The iconic Turlough Hill station was commissioned in 1974 and is Ireland’s only pumped storage generation station. The stations have a combined capacity of 330MW and comprise 9 hydro generators, three Category A concrete dams, an embankment dam, tunnels, bridges, reservoirs and the many buildings and civil structures used to ensure the operation and safety of the schemes.
