The Registered Nurse (RN)/Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) works as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team in the in-patient acute psychiatric nursing unit, collaborating on the delivery of holistic, comprehensive care to meet the needs of individuals, families and/or communities. The RN/RPN’s scope of practice includes physical and mental status assessments, planning, coordinating, implementing and evaluating care, as well as discharge planning to promote, maintain or restore mental health and prevent mental illness, injury and disability. The RN/RPN provides care throughout the life span, in all stages of health and complexities of illness. This position communicates with other departments and services across the Addiction and Mental Health continuum to ensure comprehensive, high-quality care to promote recovery and wellness. The RN/RPN may also facilitate learning for clients and families and provide individual and group therapy.
