The Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) is an advanced practice nurse with knowledge and skills gained through additional education and experience specializing in pediatrics. The PNP blends an in-depth knowledge of advanced health assessment and diagnosis, therapeutic management with the legal authority and autonomy to order diagnostic tests, prescribe pharmaceuticals and perform specific procedures in the management and treatment of common acute pediatric illnesses and stable chronic conditions. The PNP practices within a framework of evidence-based practice, health promotion, disease and injury prevention. The practice involves building partnerships with individuals, families and communities, including supporting inter‑professional collaboration and continuous improvements through evaluative processes and projects. The PNP will be based out of the Pediatric Inpatient Department but will also function in outpatient and community settings.
